Godspeed - Dispatch 18

December 5, 2022

Since this dispatch series began back in June, I have been consistently inconsistent, and I've wasted a lot of time deliberately. But now that the year is coming to an end, and winter is quickly approaching, it is time that I choose a new goal, or more accurately, a new theme for my projects moving forward through the next couple months.

There's a metaphor that I've been using amongst some of my close friends for over a year now, which may help to illustrate this new winter theme: basically, every person in the world is a ship, sailing around the world. All ships eventually sink, so one's goal as a ship ought to be to sail to as many wonderful places as possible, and spend the greatest amount of time possible exploring new shores, and resting in safe harbors. In order to achieve this goal, it is necessary to maintain all the components of one's ship; masts, steering, sails, decks, ropes, etc. Storms are inevitable, and can be made useful, so long as one only suffers them in the name of this exploration.

I think we've all been through many storms, especially over the last couple years. I know I have. But I'm so incredibly proud of all the projects I've gotten to do, and the infrastructure of this website, particularly this dispatch series, which has enabled me to continue repair efforts on my ship, and continue sailing.

And now a new year approaches on the horizon, with it so many exciting possibilities, so many projects yet to be done, and so, for the next three months at least, there's only one thing to say:

Godspeed!

- ALGC

P.S - I'm planning on doing some kind of "best of projects" 2022 video in the next couple weeks, where I'll talk about some of my favorite projects from this past year, the process for making them, etc. So if you've got some free time coming up, maybe consider re-watching some of the videos/re-reading some of the dispatch posts from this year, so that you'll be fully up-to-speed once that video project comes out

And as always, thank you very much for reading!
