ALGC MARKETPLACE
This year, in light of the dramatic increase in bad things happening in the world, I've decided to relaunch my online shop with a whole bunch of new note cards, featuring photos I've taken over the years on both film and digital.
I've spent a lot of time thinking recently about how best we can all work to combat the things going on in the United States and around the world, and I think the work that needs to be done can be broken into two main categories: maintenance and outreach.
The first is maintenance; there are a lot of powerful institutions in the United States that have been doing really essential work for decades, and though they may be imperfect, right now they need our help. That's why I'm donating 30% of the profits from this store to my local NPR station, LA.ist, which has been providing unbiased, uncensored news and information to Southern California for decades.
The second is outreach; right now the United States is carelessly slashing all of it's international aide programs, which contribute enormously to soft power around the world, national defense, and international health and prosperity. Again, organizations like USAID may be deeply flawed, but the work they do and the hope they represent for people around the world is incredibly valuable. That's why I'll be donating an additional 10% of the profits from this store to Kiva, an online platform that I've been donating to for years that supports small businesses (not unlike this one!) in developing countries all around the world. No matter what happens, I don't want the rest of the world to get the false impression that American's don't care about them anymore, because a lot of us still do.
